Carly Schmelzer is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner committed to providing evidence-based practice and trauma-informed care. She started her career volunteering at a psychiatric hospital while studying psychology in undergrad. She then worked in short term residential care settings and moved to the inpatient psychiatric setting upon gaining her nurse license. She enjoys connecting with patients and meeting them wherever they are on their healing journey. She attended Ohio University and The Ohio State University.
Carly strives to provide a therapeutic space for individuals to navigate their treatment goals. She delivers honesty with compassion and empathy, and allows for authentic collaboration when treating patients. She does so through trusting her patients and providing holistic psychoeducation and medication management.

Recipient of the Behavioral Health Workforce and Education Training Grant. This interprofessional program was a collaborative initiative and included graduate students from the College of Social Work, the College of Nursing, and the College of Education and Human Ecology School Psychology Program. This program aimed to prepare the next generation of behavioral healthcare workers dedicated to culturally responsive services to Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) youth and their families.
